Unmammed Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), more commonly known as Drones, are all in the news and proving themselves to be a useful tool for gathering certain types of aerial photography.
Photomap has been exploring the value of Drones and will looking at their suitability for capturing imagery for a broader market. Their suitability for forestry scale applications seem limited at the current time although smaller farms and horticultural applications look promising. Current indications are that they will be somewhat less cost effective than a standard aircraft mounted camera.
The details of just how the Civil Aviation Authority decides to categorise and regulate these craft still remains to be seen.
We will shortly be trialing a copter format Drone fitted with an aerial camera and will report back on our findings.
